TOA lightning servers still down?
« on: September 16, 2025, 07:53:46 AM »
I still get GAIA servers still down while trying to log into the TOA site.
I have sent a couple messages to their tech people with no response.

Does anyone who was feeding them data from receivers been able to get updated and back into seeing the strikes?

I get "All Gaia Servers are currently offline" when I try to log in.

I haven't been able to see the custom map that I uploaded to my web site in quite some time. over a year now. The last map shows 18 August 2024.

I tried contacting them, but "crickets" were the result.

I connected via my Raspberry Pi out in the garage to the TOA with the following result for a "server" query:

Code: [Select]
[appLog.c:1645] SERVER 1: 52.8.209.139:3215 - WF 0 - CONNECTED
[appLog.c:1645] SERVER 2: 52.70.97.217:3215 - WF 0 - CONNECTED
[appLog.c:1649] SERVER 3: 000.000.000.000:0 - WF 0 - DISCONNECTED
[appLog.c:1653] OUT BUFFER COUNT 0
[appLog.c:1654]  IN BUFFER COUNT 0

So the data ingest system is working...

Thanks, Greg, just verifying that I'm not the only one who hasn't been able to get ahold of them.

Oh, still looking for the 6336.  I has to be here somewhere...   Dale

Hi,

Look under the "General Weather / Earth Sciences Topics" section, "Lightning" of this site for more info......

Thanks,

I've been talking with Tim Bent from TOA pretty regularly. They originally sold to another company over a year ago, then that fell through and got the company back. Then they were sold to Accuweather. The days of looking at your data live is now gone, only Accuweather can see your data if you still have it connected.

Mark,
I'm not real familiar with AccuWeather but from the past  years, they haven't always gotten warm reviews.

I have no storms near me for the time being, and will check when I have a chance to see if there are any lightning strikes that I can even see in the country, say nothing about local.

If I get the base of you message, we provide internet, power and a UPS to run their receiver and they won't give US the data back for our locale?

Is this the same company who wants users to send their weather data to them, but then we need to buy it back by subscribing?

Seems like a very poor business model.  As far as lightning data are concerned, it is costly to buy on some of the networks, like WeatherTap and the Vaisala run one.  But what we get back isn't like what the electrical power companies need to determine if a transformer got hit or not.

I'm going to have to mull this one over and see what they do in real life after a bit.  If I as a user get cut off from seeing data that I provide, they may need to send a technician over to climb on my installation and take their stuff down.

Just a possibility.
